Connecting Scholars and Academic Heritage in Networks

Activity: Talk or presentationAcademic

After a brief introduction of the Project Hoogleraren (Professors Project) of the SAE and Huygens ING and its new representation in the Digital Web Centre for the History of Science in the Low Countries of the members of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) showing the examples of the biography of Jan Hendrik Oort, I will point to the need of connecting scholarly and academic heritage networks. I will try to explain various types of networks and their advantages for the study of large objects of study, such as The Republic of Letters.Furthermore, I will make the claim that letters in the Republic of Letters cannot be separated from “The Republic of Materials”. After a discussion of the potential use of the presented networks with the theme of the conference: Researcher Meets Curator, I will conclude with the potential implications for infrastructures when we scale up and connect collections in Linked data in the last part of my presentation: Research Infrastructure meets Heritage Infrastructure.
