Did infants and children of migrants enjoy a migrant mortality advantage? A survival analysis using Dutch personal cards from the HSN

Activity: Talk or presentationAcademic

Previous studies have reported a so-called healthy migrant effect. The question is how long this healthy migrant effect lasts and whether it is being transferred to the next generation. The aim of the paper is to investigate whether we find a mortality advantage among infants (0-1 year) and children (1-5 years) of migrants mothers. We focus on the Dutch province of Zeeland in the period 1812-1962. In order to test whether infants and children of migrant mothers and fathers enjoyed a mortality advantage, Cox proportional hazard models will be fitted.
