GLOBALISE – Doing environmental history through the VOC’s written archives

Description

How can digitised VOC records, such as letters and reports, support research into the environmental history of colonialism? This presentation introduces the GLOBALISE project and its large-scale corpus of transcriptions and metadata of VOC documents, showing how these textual sources can provide insight into patterns of land use, resource extraction, and ecological change in early colonial settings in Asia.
