The Gelders Genootschap, in cooperation with the Nederlandse Kastelenstichting, has started a research project about Dutch castles, country houses and country estates in the Second World War: War in Arcadia. Thanks to a contribution from the Mondriaan Fund (from the special '75 years of liberation fund'), the research was made possible.

The story of 'War in Arcadia' is still relatively unknown, because there is little attention for it from both military history and country estate history. We want to change this. This research project examines both the history of 'War in Arcadia' (what happened then?) and the heritage (how do we deal with it now?).
