This talk highlights how the GLOBALISE project enables researchers to explore the VOC’s history in Taiwan more deeply. Automatically generated transcriptions broaden access to archival materials, while reference datasets—such as those on places and commodities—and tools like Word2Vec offer powerful means for refining searches and contextualizing findings. These resources not only enrich company-focused histories but also support the exploration of Asian perspectives and the lives of those often excluded from traditional narratives. The project is also working to integrate annotated digitized historical maps, which promise to unlock further possibilities for rethinking Taiwan’s Dutch colonial past.
