About

Pepijn Brandon (1980) is Professor of Global Economic and Social History at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Senior Researcher at the International Institute of Social History. He obtained his PhD from the University of Amsterdam in 2013 (cum laude). Published by Brill under the title War, Capital, and the Dutch State (1588-1795), his thesis won the D.J.Veegens Award (2014). Brandon held fellowships at the University of Pittsburgh, Brown University and Harvard University. He was a visiting professor at Harvard during the Spring semester of 2020. He received various individual grants from NWO (Rubicon, Veni and Vidi). He is a member of the editorial boards of the International Review of Social History, the International Journal of Maritime History and the BMGN / Low Countries Historical Review.
