Pepijn Brandon (1980) is Assistant Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Senior Researcher at the International Institute of Social History. He obtained his PhD from the University of Amsterdam in 2013 (with distinction). Published by Brill under the title War, Capital, and the Dutch State (1588-1795), his thesis was chosen as 'Dissertation of the Year' by the Amsterdam Center for Culture and History (2013) and won the D.J.Veegens Award (2014). Brandon worked at the University of Pittsburgh (NWO Rubicon-fellow) and as a postdoctoral fellow at the VU and IISH. In 2016, he received a Veni-grant for his project 'Laboratories of Capitalism: Naval Shipyards in the Atlantic World as Centers of Innovation in Production, Administration and Labor Control (1720-1870)'.
