DARIAH will provide a coordinated infrastructure for supporting preservation of cultural heritage in Europe and providing access to research material from the humanities. Key processes:
Bringing together the best efforts at national, organisational and individual level in order to launch enhanced Europe-wide actions, initiatives and services.
Developing national services and digitisation programs, particularly in countries where these are non-existent at present.
Bringing together research, education, cultural heritage and “memory” institutions and organisations in the commercial and non-commercial sector.
Enhancing digital scholarship in the humanities and arts across Europe.
DARIAH ensures a long-term sustainability as well as openness to other similar activities in Europe. Covering the wide spectrum of research in the humanities and related fields. It will coordinate, catalyse, enhance and provide technical and editorial support to all research projects that express needs to access or produce digital assets.
DARIAH is a joint initiative of four organisations with a responsibility in the domain of the creation, maintenance and dissemination of digital resources:
AHDS (UK): Arts and Humanities Data Service
CNRS (France): Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique
DANS (Netherlands): Data Archiving and Networked Services
MPG (Germany): Max Planck Gesellschaft
