Abstract
Research data repositories face a balance between meeting domain-specific needs and achieving interoperability for cross-domain use. Standardized metadata schemes are essential for integrative platforms like DataCite, yet repositories often cater to distinct knowledge areas with tailored indexing, leading to tension between specificity and interoperability. There is significant challenge to bridge various metadata frameworks by promoting interoperability through tools like crosswalks and ontologies.
