Abstract

The paleographic research for a recently found charter of the eldermen of the city ‘s-Hertogenbosch, dated 1249, lead to the discovery of a townscribe in the first half of the thirteenth century. With the proven lokalization of this person, the presence of the first local scribe in the environment of the city government can be brought forward from 1271 to 1249. Hereby he city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch leads the way in the introduction of urban scribes in the cities of Brabant, Holland, Zealand en the East Holland.
