Abstract

This virtual exhibition tells the story of the Dutch East Indiaman Rooswijk, which foundered in a storm off the English coast in January 1740. In 2017 the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE) started a cooperative project called #Rooswijk1740, aiming to investigate and partly excavate the wreck of the Rooswijk. The virtual exhibition (commissioned by the RCE) shows the results of this project, together with the output of historical research on the crew and cargo of the ship.
