Financial Resource Flows for Population Activities in 2008

This edition marks the first time that population assistance has surpassed US $ 10 billion. Domestic expenditures for population are estimated at $ 23 billion in 2008. Both donors and developing countries have made considerable efforts to mobilize financial resources to help implement the ICPD Programme of Action. Preliminary estimates and projections of future funding point to continued, although smaller, increases in in funding for population. This is particularly important given the current global financial crisis and the even greater need of assistance for developing countries.
