Abstract
Fryslân is a bilingual province: both Dutch and Frisian are official languages. As such, not only Fryslân but also the role of the Frisian provincial government is special. The province of Fryslân is unique in the Netherlands, due to its extensive language and cultural policies and considerable jursidiction. But what exactly are the European obligations, what is stated in the national laws and governmental agreements, and how is Frisian education organised?
"Fryslân from a bird's eye view" provides a concise overview of the laws, agreements and instutions related to Frisian. It is a publication by Mercator European Research Centre on Multilingualism and Language Learning and it is intended for policymakers, administrators, representatives of the people and other interested parties.
