Abstract

The paper explores the meaning of shifts in the electoral system in the Netherlands, which granted women the possibility to be elected in Parliament, regional bodies as well as local council in 1917. For the first time, the first women in local councils were studied. Furthermore the contribution analyses the remarkable successes of female members of Parliament in the fifties.
