Abstract
This article illustrates the digitizing project now going on at Huygens Institute for the History of the Netherlands: “Belle de Zuylen’s letters on-line”. It gives an example of the new, much more precise ways of considering the text of this correspondence and suggests new directions to be taken by research. Using a very small corpus (letters Isabelle de Charrière exchanged with some of the members of her Dutch family) the authors present (provisional) conclusions to be drawn from a quantitative approach of the material, and from the much more factual way of studying these exchanges. It is suggested that this will also lead to a new perspective on the relationship between Charrière’s private life and fictional situations she created in her novels.
