Abstract

Four researchers spent five years examining huge stacks of documents to trace the exact share of slave trade in the economy of the Dutch Repub­lic. They concluded that the slave trade and the trade in slave­produced commodities were far more lucrative than previously believed. “Amster­dam was the hub of that colonial trade”
