Abstract
This presentation focusses on how Muslims in the Netherlands engage in hashtag activism against the backdrop of increased nativism and religious-secular identification of ‘the West’ and its others. Through an analysis of a variety of national and international campaigns (#NotinMyName, #nietmijnislam and the #MuslimApologies campaign), this paper highlights how online activism struggles to overcome dominant public discourse on Islam and its purported incompatibility with the West.
