N2 - The Huygens institute for Dutch history and culture aims to facilitate and enhance collaborative research with and on biographical data. We give a brief outline of the Huygens ING digital biographical data policy, describe how we share our data with the world, and explain how we facilitate the exploration of similarities and interconnections between the Huygens data, external data collections and user- uploaded datasets, without imposing selection criteria. Finally, we present a use case that shows how our policy and infrastructure enable researchers to employ large collections of ambiguous biographical data, hitherto mainly used for genealogical reference, for addressing innovative, challenging research questions.
