In recent years the historiography on the Argentine Socialist Party has made remarkable progress. However, relatively little progress has been made in a more detailed analysis of the internal structure of the party, its mechanisms and its quantitative evolution over the years, elements that are important in order to measure the degree of development and influence of the party among workers. This paper makes a series of first approaches to party finances by studying the balances of the central treasury between 1896 and 1910. The first part examines the financial structure of the party's treasury, in order to study the global evolution of its income over the period, the relative proportion of the different income items and the main expense categories. The second part focuses on the available information on quotes and subscriptions to the newspaper in order to draw a global picture of the numerical evolution of party forces and to make some estimates about their influence radius.
