Beschrijving

On account of Roeland van Hout’s 66th birthday and valedictory lecture, we devote a mini-symposium to two key topics in (socio) linguistics which are near and dear to his heart. Papers by some of his closest colleagues and a keynote presentation by Sali Tagliamonte (University of Toronto) illustrate the amazing variety of domains Roeland is active in under the umbrella of language variation and change. As a consequence, the variation to be explained also pertains to Roeland van Hout’s research interests, while the change to be predicted also relates to how we can ensure that the seeds Roeland has sown continue to grow: how can we make the most of Roeland van Hout’s intellectual legacy?
