Changing soil legacies to direct restoration of plant communities

  • E.P. Brinkman (Maker)

In a two-phase plant-soil feedback experiment we tested soil legacy effects of original and disturbed fen meadows and of successfully and unsuccessfully restored fields. We further studied short-term alterations of the soil community by plant species characteristic of original and of disturbed fen meadows. We determined soil legacy effects on germination of two characteristic fen meadow plant species. Finally, we studied soil legacy effects on interactions among Carex species and neighbouring plant species.
