Samenvatting

This publication is version 2 of the codebook of the second wave of the Netherlands Kinship Panel Study (NKPS). For background information on the NKPS, we refer the reader to the Wave 1 codebook (version 1, NKPS Working Paper No. 4). The current data release is the final Wave 2 release; any upcoming data release will only contain updates on possible minor errors that have not been discovered yet. Updates after the final release will be documented in the file version.txt, which is included in the data package available on www.nkps.nl. A number of changes were introduced in Wave 2 (see chapter 2 for details). The most important change is that the NKPS no longer consists of two separate samples. In Wave 2 the same data collection methods were organized for the ‘main’ (also described as NKPS-sample) and ‘migrant’ (also described as SPVA-sample) samples. In Wave 1, the questionnaires for the two samples were not fully compatible (for details, see Appendix 2 and section 12.2 of the Wave 1 codebook, version 1), a problem that has now been redressed. We report on the data-collection of the second wave as thoroughly as possible. Nevertheless, we cannot rule out the possibility that problems will be detected in the data. We encourage users to report all errors and anomalies that they discover.
