Samenvatting

On the basis of an analysis of the way in which a team of translators created the Dutch Authorized Version of 1637; this article shows that the translators and revisers not always succeeded in making humanist philology subservient to orthodox Calvinist thought. The article draws extensively on an ignored source: the unique Autographon, an interleafed type-set copy of the first draft of the translation, which contains thousands of manuscript annotations and corrections by the members of the four teams who worked on the translation for over a decade.
