Samenvatting

Taking a Germanic Sandwich perspective, this paper investigates a number indefinite pronouns from German, Dutch and English. In turns out that either the comparable elements show comparable behavior, or the differences pattern in such a way that Dutch is nearly always in between the neighboring languages. These findings corroborate the original Van Haeringen (1956) hypothesis that Dutch is between Dutch and English not only geographically, but also grammatically. The investigations also shed new light on the underinvestigated grammatical class of indefinite pronouns, which shows the validity of the Sandwich heuristic once again.
