Samenvatting

‘Family and household demography’ differs from traditional demography in that it explicitly recognizes and studies relationships between individuals. Formal demography focuses on the definition and measurement of families and households, and modeling of types, number, and composition of families and households in the past, current, and future. The entry briefly covers issues in definition, measurement, and modeling. The evolution of modeling from headship rate models to agent-based models is discussed.
